A Thanksgiving Eve fire in Rainelle completely destroyed an abandoned home.
According to Rainelle Fire Department Chief Doug Estep, a call came in regarding the home fire on Third Street around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 24.
It took the crew about three hours to get the fire out, Estep said. It appeared that the fire started near the back porch area, but no official cause has been determined.
As firefighters were getting the blaze under control, a portion of Third Street behind Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home had to be closed to traffic.
Members of the Rupert and Quinwood Fire Departments assisted with the call, along with the West Virginia State Police and White Sulphur Springs Emergency Medical Services.
No one was injured in the fire, however the home was completely destroyed, Estep noted.
In the days prior to the Third Street fire, members of the Rainelle Fire Department responded to a call in the Hines area regarding an outbuilding fire.
Matthew Osborne, assistant chief, stated that the fire occurred along Route 60 near the old Tip Top Lounge, which caused Route 60 to be closed for about 45 minutes.
The building was a total loss and suspicious in nature due to there being no utilities connected to it, Osborne explained. The State Fire Marshal was called to the scene to investigate, but no cause has yet been determined. The building was a total loss.
Quinwood and Rupert Fire Departments assisted with this call.
