As a member of the Greenbrier Democratic Women’s Club, I would like to share what we have accomplished since January 2021 and our future endeavors.
In January we presented gift cards and snacks to the Housekeeping Departments at the hospital and local nursing homes to recognize their extra efforts and increased diligence during Covid.
In February we celebrated Black History Month with a display at our headquarters.
In March we participated in a Ronceverte “Make It Shine” day. Trash was removed, weeds pulled, and streets cleaned to make the business district look cleaner and ready for business. We sent thank you notes to Senator Stephen Baldwin in appreciation for his hard work for everyone in Greenbrier County. We also sent a donation in his name to Friends of Ronceverte, his home town.
In April donations of books, cleaning products and disinfectants were collected for and presented to the Marvel Center, and Early Childhood Learning Center in Rupert, WV.
In May we planted flowers in front of our Blue Skies Ahead/Greenbrier Democratic Women’s Headquarters. Since we are across the street from the Greenbrier County Courthouse, the flowers were a nice addition to Court Street. We also celebrated Mother’s Day with a sign display.
In June we celebrated Father’s Day with a display at our headquarters. We also participated in the first Greenbrier Valley Pride Parade. We carried our “No Hate in my Holler” sign and walked to show our support. Tents were set up in front of our headquarters where we handed out voter registration forms. We weeded and planted at the Senior Center in Fairlea. Peppers and tomatoes were planted for meals and flowers for their enjoyment.
In July we had a booth at the Alderson July 4th Parade. We displayed The American Rescue Plan and the Blue Skies Ahead and Greenbrier Democrat’s poster to explain what we stand for. We had voter registration forms, a sign-up sheet, t-shirts, candy, and fans to color for the children.
In August we wrote Thank You notes that included gift cards to local restaurants and presented them to the employees of the Greenbrier County Committee on Aging who provide care to the senior citizens throughout the pandemic.
In September we began a new endeavor that will continue into October. We are preparing baskets of snacks to recognize folks that have been so wonderful during the pandemic. Their hard work and constant dedication are so much appreciated.
We are now into October. Baskets have been delivered to the Health Department, the 911 employees, and Greenbrier Valley Medical Center as a thank you for their dedication to Greenbrier County. We also delivered snacks to the first responders at EMS locations in Greenbrier County. We will be recognizing Domestic Violence Awareness all month. Purple ribbon is on display at our headquarters. We are collecting hygiene products, cleaning products, and other items for the Family Refuge Center.
The Greenbrier Democratic Women’s Club appreciates all the people that are taking care of all of Greenbrier County. Our Club values are reflected in our recognition and appreciation of these folks.
