Halloween is sneaking up on the Greenbrier Valley once again, with cities, towns, businesses, organizations, and residents each preparing for the festivities to come.
For Lewisburg, Halloween trick or treating will be held on Saturday, Oct. 30 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at houses that have their porch lights on.
The town of Rainelle annual Trunk or Treat will be held Oct. 30 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Town Hall. There will be prizes and awards for the best theme trunk, the scariest trunk, and most original trunk. Ronceverte trick or treating will take place on Oct. 30 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mayor Deena Pack said “We are looking forward to celebrating Halloween here in Ronceverte this year, and we are so encouraged by the energy and excitement from our community. Stay tuned for more information about other Halloween festivities in Ronceverte, and as always, the safety of our kids will be our top priority.”
In White Sulphur Springs, trick or treating will be held on Oct. 30 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The Marvel Center is planning a Fall Festival and Trunk or Treat for Oct. 29 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Held at the center itself, the former Rupert Elementary School. Both the Bear’s Den Mobile Food Service and WVU Pop Up Market are currently expected to provide food for the event. The event will also feature games, prizes for best costume and best trunk, vendors ($10 table fee), and trunk or treat (organizations and businesses welcome to join).
The Family Refuge Center is presenting an outdoor movie night, showcasing “Disney’s Halloween classic Hocus Pocus.” The event is ticketed, with proceeds going to “support families of domestic violence and sexual assault.” The movie begins at 8 p.m. on Oct. 30, though the event opens at 7:30 p.m. Located at Hollowell Park in Lewisburg, tickets come with the movie, popcorn, and drinks. “Please remember to wear a mask and maintain social distance. Bring your own blanket and chair!” reads an event flier.
Another typically high-traffic event is the tailgate trick or treating at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center. This, however, has been canceled this year due to the more infectious Delta variant of COVID-19.
“We are bummed to announce that GVMC will not be hosting Tailgate Trick or Treat this year. While we’re hopeful COVID positive cases continue to decline, they’re just not where they need to be to get a group together of that size safely, particularly with a population (children under 12) who aren’t yet vaccinated. We’ll certainly miss seeing you and your fun costumes! Fingers and toes crossed for 2022!”
The Greenbrier Hotel is holding a Halloween Weekend, with events running from Oct. 29 at 3 p.m. to October 31 at noon. Guests should “dress up in your scariest — or silliest — costume and head to America’s Resort for a Halloween Weekend filled with fang-tastic events for ghosts and goblins of all ages. From a Halloween-themed mixology class to pumpkin painting workshops, costume parades and parties for children and adults, Halloween at The Greenbrier will be a spook-tacular experience your family will look back on with delight for years to come.”
