Fatal Plane Crash In Fayette County

A plane crash in Fayette County over the weekend caused the deaths of three men.

According to West Virginia State Police officials, on Sun. Sept. 26, at approximately 10:09 a.m., Sr. Trooper A.E. Roberts and Trooper J.J. Stewart received a call from the Fayette County Office of Emergency Services in reference to a possible plane crash that occurred in the Lansing area.

Upon searching the area, the wreckage was located behind a barn on Opossum Creek Road in Lansing. Three deceased males were located inside of the plane. They have been identified as Nick Fletcher, 38, Michael Taphouse, 36, and Wesley Farley, 39. All three men were from the Chesapeake, VA, area.

Those with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) were contacted and assumed control of the investigation.

Although no details have been made available on the type of aircraft involved in the crash, the official Twitter page of the NTSB-Newsroom stated that they were investigating a plane crash near Fayetteville, WV, involving a Beech C23.

No information has been released on the cause of the crash.
