The Family Refuge Center (FRC) is seeking funds to repair and paint its shelter.
“Family Refuge Center’s Anne Blair House emergency shelter is in need of exterior repairs. The emergency shelter serves as a safe haven for individuals and families experiencing violence and/or abuse and has been serving these individuals since 1995.”
According to a letter reviewed by the Monroe County Commission on Sept. 1, the cost to repair and paint the shelter “is a little over $100,000.00.”
“Over 15 years ago, the house was dedicated in memory of Anne Blair, the founding director of what is now Seneca Mental Health Services and a long-time advocate for many social causes including domestic violence,” explains FRC. “The Anne Blair House, currently licensed as a 15-bed facility, provides emergency shelter in a communal living setting to survivors of domestic and sexual violence 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at no cost. During their stay, survivors are provided with essential items including food and toiletries.”
FRC serves Greenbrier, Mercer, Monroe, and Pocahontas counties. Services “can include counseling, education, search for employment, budgeting, search for permanent housing and more. Our goal is to allow clients a safe space to heal while empowering them for life after they leave the shelter.”
