LEWISBURG- In case you haven’t heard, Lewisburg is receiving some national holiday attention after being selected as one of just 25 finalists across the country in Hallmark Channel’s “Merriest Christmas Towns” contest. The nationwide search is being held in celebration of Hallmark Channel’s 25th anniversary and recognizes communities that embody the traditions, charm, generosity, and spirit associated with Christmas.
For Lewisburg, winning could mean much more than simply earning a new title. The town selected as Hallmark’s Merriest Christmas Town will have the opportunity to serve as a filming location for a future Hallmark original movie.
Lewisburg’s historic downtown, locally owned shops, and annual holiday traditions–including the downtown Christmas tree lighting, Christmas parade, horse-drawn carriage rides, and “Magic of Christmas in Downtown Lewisburg” festivities–helped put the Greenbrier Valley community in the national spotlight, a place it has been several times.
Public voting is underway and continues through 11:59 p.m. ET on Sept. 4. Lewisburg is listed as Entry No. 16, and supporters can vote once every 24 hours. Voting is free, and an email address is required. Public voting is an important part of the competition, while judges will also consider Community Spirit, Holiday Traditions, Neighborhood Charm, and Goodwill in determining the eventual winner. The winning community is expected to be announced near the end of October.
Residents throughout Lewisburg, Greenbrier County, and West Virginia are encouraged to vote and help bring a little Hallmark Christmas magic to the Mountain State.
