Ernest Berl Collins
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Ernest Berl Collins, 75, of White Sulphur Springs on August 22, 2026, at the Peyton Hospice House in Lewisburg, WV.
Berl was a proud combat wounded Vietnam veteran, with a Purple Heart and Oak Leaf Cluster. He was a devoted husband and father. A man who loved his family deeply. He lived a life full of strength and love and always had a way of making everyone feel laughter and joy.
Berl was preceded in death by his beloved father, Benjamin Harold Collins, and mother, Gracie Flo Shiflett Collins, both of Durbin, WV; brother, George Franklin Collins, and sister-in-law, Janet Bostic Collins, both of White Sulphur Springs, WV.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Fitzgibbon Collins of White Sulphur Springs, WV; daughters, Heather (Chad) Williams, also of White Sulphur Springs, WV, Angela (Tracy) Hughes of Ronceverte, WV; his cherished grandchildren, Jana, Owen and Cora Hughes, and Addison Williams; his sisters, Dorothy (Robert) Garland of Frederick, MD, Erma (Richard) Hedrick of Salem, VA; brothers, David (Diana) Collins of Hampstead, MD, Jack Shiflett of Elkins, WV; many special nieces and nephews.
Above all else, he was the best Dad and Pops/Papa a family could ever ask for. His love, guidance, and the memories he gave us will remain in our hearts forever. While we are heartbroken to say, “see ya later”, we are so grateful for the time we had with him and the love he so freely gave.
Berl leaves behind a family who loved him beyond words and will miss him more than he could ever know. His memory will forever live on in their hearts.
Dad/Berl, we love you; we will miss you, and we will carry you with us always. Your love and legacy will live on in all of us.
In keeping with Berl’s wishes, he will be cremated and a Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
