NOTICE OF PROPOSED CONVEYANCE OF UNITED METHODIST CHURCH PROPERTY
(MT VERNON UNITED METHODIST CHURCH)
Notice is hereby given that the Board of Trustees of the West Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church will, on or after September 2, 2026, QUITCLAIM, GRANT and CONVEY to the Trustees of Mt. Vernon Church, all of their right, title and interest in and to the following parcels of land in Irish Corner District of Greenbrier County, West Virginia and bounded and described as follows:
PARCEL ONE
On the waters of Greenbrier River, on which is situated the Mount Vernon Meeting House containing 3/4 of an acre, Beginning at a Shelbark Hickory and thence S 26° W 10 poles passing a Spanish Oak and Hickory at a stake and thence N 66° W 12 poles to a stake and thence N 26° E 10 poles passing over rocks to a stake and thence S 66° E 12 poles to the beginning, also a convenient road to pass to said lands;
AND BEING all the real estate conveyed to the Trustees of Methodist Episcopal Church, by Deed dated November 19, 1846 and recorded in the Office of the Clerk of the County Commission of Greenbrier County, West Virginia in Deed Book 18, at page 83, reference to which is hereby made.
PARCEL TWO
ADJOINING the Mt. Vernon Church Lot and bounded ag follows: Beginning at a stake ( 40 links S 17 ½ W from a large black oak) corner to Church lot S 35 ¼ E 17 poles (passing old Perry Line in road at l0 poles and 20 links) to a stake at south end of Grave yard thence N14 E 16 poles and 13 links to a stake N 72 ¾ W 5 poles to a walnut N l0 W 3 ½ poles to a small walnut N 67 W 5 poles and 6 links to a corner of Church lot where a shell bark hickory is called for 5 links from a marked ash thence with Church lot following old call S 24 W l0 poles passing a large Spanish oak in front of Church to the beginning.
AND BEING the same property conveyed to Trustees of Mt. Vernon Church from R. D. Alderson and Emma Perry Alderson, his wife, by Deed dated May 9, 1911 and recorded in the aforesaid Clerk’s office in Deed Book 93, at page 256, reference to which is hereby made.
PARCEL THREE
Beginning at a stake corner to cemetery on line S 35 ¼ and continuing with S 35 1/4 , E 2 poles and 4 links to a stake, thence N 14 E 18 poles and one link to stake corner to cemetery, then N 72 3/4 W 1 pole and 13 links to corner of cemetery and S 14 W 16 poles 13 link with old line to the beginning, said strip to be an additional strip 25 feet wide along the southeast side of the new cemetery of Mount Vernon Church and the end lines to continue straight with old lines the new line along the lower side being parallel with the old line R. D. Alderson Deed only 25 feet away.
AND BEING the same property conveyed to Trustees of Mt. Vernon Church from E. E. Hedrick and Bess M. Hedrick, his wife, by Deed dated April 21, 1945 and recorded in the aforesaid Clerk’s office in Deed Book 161, at page 614, reference to which is hereby made.
SAID Mt. Vernon United Methodist was declared closed effective June 1, 2026 by resolution adopted by a majority of the District Superintendents of the West Virginia Annual conference by the United Methodist Church.
