A Greenbrier County man was arrested on Thursday, September 9 months after allegedly assaulting his former girlfriend in her father’s home. Laken Lewis Waid, 22, of Rainelle is facing charges of domestic battery.
On the afternoon of April 26, law enforcement was dispatched to a White Sulphur Springs residence in response to reports of a domestic altercation between Laken Lewis Waid and the alleged victim, his former girlfriend. Upon their arrival, officers found that the victim had left the scene, and subsequently met with her in the Food Lion parking lot.
According to the criminal complaint, the victim advised officers that “her boyfriend Laken Waid had physically assaulted her by putting his hands around her throat and pushing her down.”
Waid had also exited the residence prior to law enforcement’s arrival.
The victim reportedly advised officers that she had been arguing with Waid about their recent break-up, and that Waid had gotten “into her face.”
The complaint further states that “things then escalated by Waid putting two hands around her neck and stating ‘You’re a (expletive) (expletive)’ and pushing her onto the bed.”
The complaint also states that while the victim “didn’t believe he (Waid) was trying to choke her,” she still needed to use her feet to push Waid off of her. Officers reported no “no bruising or redness around her neck or throat area,” but “she did appear to have some red marks on her right elbow.”
The victim did not wish to pursue a domestic violence petition.
Laken Lewis Waid is currently being held at Southern Regional Jail on a $2,000 cash/surety.
