HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WVDN) – Governor Patrick Morrisey joined state and local leaders to break ground on a new $40 million CommuniCare skilled nursing facility in Cabell County. The project is expected to create approximately 150 high-quality jobs while expanding access to long term care.
“Every West Virginian deserves access to quality healthcare close to home, especially our seniors,” said Governor Morrisey. “This investment means more families will have access to exceptional care, more healthcare professionals will have opportunities to build rewarding careers right here in West Virginia, and our state will be even better positioned to attract new businesses and support a growing economy.”
The approximately 60,000 square foot facility marks the first new nursing home built in the region since 2011. The new facility will include 124 beds, including 24 private rooms and 50 semi-private rooms, and is expected to be completed in approximately 18 months.
Once open, the facility will provide modern, high-quality skilled nursing care for residents throughout the region while offering a comfortable environment for patients and their families.
“For too long, unnecessary government barriers stood in the way of projects like this,” Governor Morrisey said. “By cutting red tape, encouraging competition, and creating a business friendly environment, we’re making it easier for companies to invest in West Virginia and improving the quality of life for our citizens at the same time.”
The project supports the administration’s Mountaineer Care Force initiative to train, recruit, and retain healthcare professionals across the state.
Construction is expected to be completed within the next 18 months, providing additional long term care capacity for Cabell County and the surrounding region while supporting continued economic growth in southern West Virginia.
