Bridgette Altizer, a recent graduate of Fairmont State University, who will be entering the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in the fall semester, has been awarded a $4000 scholarship by the Greenbrier County Republican Club Scholarship Fund.
Bridgette is a native of Renick and a graduate of Greenbrier East High School. Her career goal is to become a dermatologist practicing in West Virginia to help educate the public about melanoma and other skin cancers.
She has already begun this project. While serving as the 2023 Miss West Virginia Association pf Fairs and Festivals, she founded a platform of “Skintastis ! Love the Skin You’re In”, to educate the public about the dangers of overexposure to the sun and to increase the availability of sun protective lotions in public places.
She partnered with various fairs and festivals and the State Fair of West Virginia to put up free sunblock dispensers in their venues. She also distributed more than 100 bottles on sunblock.
She also traveled more than 17,000 miles that year to promote the WV industries of agriculture and tourism.
Bridgette is grateful to her family and community who have been so supportive of her and feels a responsibility to use her education to benefit the citizens of her state.
The Republican Club is appreciative of her accomplishments and is glad to help her achieve her goals.
