FAYETTE CO.- A Rupert man is facing felony drug charges after a traffic stop in the Ansted area allegedly led to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine, according to a criminal complaint filed in Fayette County Magistrate Court.

The complaint states that at approximately 1:14 p.m. on July 7, a law enforcement officer observed a gray Mercury sedan traveling east on U.S. Route 60. The officer reported the vehicle’s occupants appeared to be acting suspiciously before the vehicle accelerated and turned onto an old Route 60 back road. According to the complaint, the officer believed the maneuver was an attempt to avoid contact. The complaint further alleges the vehicle’s occupants switched seats before the officer initiated the traffic stop.

After making contact with the occupants, the officer reportedly obtained consent to search the vehicle. During the search, authorities allegedly located a container between the front passenger seat and the center console containing a clear plastic bag with approximately 8.7 grams of a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine.

According to the complaint, Anthony Martin, 55, of Rupert, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. The complaint also states dispatch advised the officer that Martin’s driver’s license had been revoked because of an active DUI-related revocation. Martin was transported to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department following his arrest.

The charges contained in the criminal complaint are allegations only. Martin is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
