The Richlands Ruritan club met on June 10 and welcomed its scholarship recipient, Emily McClure, a 2026 graduate of East Greenbrier High School. Emily is planning to attend West Virginia University to study Marketing. Miss McClure was accompanied by her brother, Evan McClure. Evan is recent graduate of West Virginia University and was the recipient of the club’s scholarship four years ago.
The guest speaker for the evening meeting was Teresa McCroskey a local physical trainer. Ms. McCroskey gave a presentation on the benefits of Chair Yoga. This exercise program was first developed in India over a thousand years ago. It has three key components; Poses or postures, Breathing and Relaxation. The benefits of this regime include improved strength and cardio function. Ms. McCroskey led the club members in several exercises to demonstrate the benefits of this form of physical exercise.
In the business session of the meeting the club approved a donation to the Greenbrier Youth Camp.
The Richlands Ruritans club meets on the second Wednesday of each month for a dinner meeting at the Calvary Methodist Church on Midland Trail East in Richlands. The Ruritan Civic organization is a national network of clubs working together for a stronger America. The Ruritans’ focus is to support community services in small towns and rural communities across America. The Ruritans, founded in 1928 in Holland, Virginia, are celebrating their 98th year of service to local communities. The Richlands Ruritans Club provides scholarships to local college students and 4-H campers.
