Mrs. Amelia DeLarbe of White Sulphur Springs won the title of “Queen of the Show” last week at the annual flower show presented by the Old White Garden Club.

The Terrace, White Sulphur’s newest restaurant, opened its doors to the public Friday afternoon under the management and ownership of Mr. and Mrs. John Argyrakis.
The new modern building is located on the old Clifford property on U.S. Route 60, Main Street, next door to the Village Transfer Company.

Sgt. and Mrs. Elmer Burnett and infant son, Stephen, arrived Tuesday from Ft. Sheridan, Ill., and have taken an apartment in the O’Farrell building on Patterson Street in White Sulphur.
The sergeant has received orders for overseas duty and sails September 20th for Germany. Mrs. Burnett and baby will remain here during his absence.

Frank G. Perry, son of Mrs. Wilda Perry, has the distinction of being the first person in White Sulphur Springs to receive television clearly on a Philco TV set. He is now putting up antennas for TV reception with Ralph Ballard Jr.

A dream of Mrs. Pat Sullivan of White Sulphur Springs will be realized September 9th when a portrait of General Andrew S. Rowan is presented to the Andrew S. Rowan Home at Sweet Springs.

Mrs. Retus Griffith Zengeler of Washington, D.C., received a commission as a lieutenant, USNR, in the Naval Nurse Corps.
She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.W. Griffith of White Sulphur Springs.

Franklin R. Hoke was sworn into the Air Force on August 28.
He was born in White Sulphur Springs and attended graded and high school there. He is the son of the former Mrs. Ola Bostic Hoke and her husband, A-1c William L. Huntsman.

Mrs. Dolly R. Kyer and Mrs. Nellie Weyen of White Sulphur Springs have been announced as delegates to attend the Republican State Judicial Convention at Clarksburg on Oct. 4.

White Sulphur cadets at Greenbrier Military School in Lewisburg this year are Buddy Kanipes and Jack Boone, both on the varsity football team, also Robert Gamba, Billy Van Deman, Louie Toman Jr., Jeep Goodwillie, and Ralph Hanna Jr.

Members of the White Sulphur Springs Volunteer Fire Department underwent a 3-hour intensified training period on the mechanism and equipment of their new fire truck last Tuesday evening.

Dick Bell of Lewisburg has accepted a position of night clerk at the Alvon Hotel in White Sulphur.

Lt. Col. Richard E. East recently arrived at Okinawa, Japan, and has been assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 29th Infantry Regiment, as commanding officer.
His wife, Margie, and parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed East, live in White Sulphur Springs.

Mr. and Mrs. John Bowling Jr. left last week for Morgantown where he will continue his studies at the University of West Virginia.

The annual drive for funds with which to maintain the White Sulphur Library and Community House opened September 15 under the leadership of Mr. Oscar Bowling.

Victor Seixas, No. 1 ranking tennis player in America, will head a list of 16 of the nation’s top net stars who are expected to participate in Autumn Tennis Week at The Greenbrier, October 23-26.
