WAYNESBORO: Va. (WVDN) – The Covington Lumberjacks closed out the weekend with their third consecutive loss, falling 4-1 to the Tom Sox. Covington dropped one game at home and two on the road during the weekend stretch and now sits at 1-7 on the season.
The game remained scoreless through the first two innings before the Tom Sox broke through with two runs in the third and added another in the fourth for a 3-0 advantage. Covington got on the board in the fifth when Luis Acosta scored on a sacrifice fly by Mason Reid, cutting the deficit to 3-1. The Tom Sox answered with a run later in the game and held the Lumberjacks scoreless the rest of the way.
Covington managed four hits, led by Caleb Miele, who went 2-for-3. Acosta finished 1-for-3 with the team’s lone run scored, while Isaac Lopez added a hit and a sacrifice bunt. Reid drove in Covington’s only run.
Carlos Manzueta took the loss after allowing four runs on four hits over 3.2 innings. He walked four and struck out one. Andy Hernandez provided strong relief, striking out five over 2.1 innings while allowing one hit. Eli Porter worked one inning with two strikeouts, and Quindon Wright added a scoreless inning with one strikeout.
Hunter DePriest, George Pardo Jr., Cross Yarborough, Jacob Levesque, Bryant Zayas, Ray Yero, Deundre Jones and Frankie Clark also saw action for the Lumberjacks.
Covington will look to snap its three-game skid when they host Culpeper on Wednesday night, at Casey Field.
