ALDERSON- The A.A. McLaughlin scholarship was created in honor of A.A. McLaughlin, who was a long-time teacher and very successful coach at Alderson High School. He was the first Athletic Director at Greenbrier East.
The scholarships are awarded to deserving Greenbrier East seniors who live in the Alderson school district. The scholarship was started in 2001, and the fund is administered by the Greenbrier Valley Community Foundation.
Since the first funds were awarded, 55 scholarships for more than $61,000 have been awarded to worthy Greenbrier East students. In 2001, one scholarship for $500 was awarded.
In 2026, TWO scholarships of $3500 were awarded.
The scholarship board is very appreciative of those who have supported the fund and allowed it to grow.
