GREENBRIER COUNTY, W.Va. (WVDN) – On May 11, the Greenbrier County Commission gathered for a regular session, discussing a slate of important local matters.
Commissioners greenlit $15,243.16 for Maple Dale water storage improvements and authorized a $300 permit for White Sulphur Springs, showing continued commitment to local infrastructure.
Amanda Smarr presented an invoice for the Greenbrier County gig-ready broadband project, requesting payment of $75,000 to Thomson and Litton. Smarr confirmed this amount was included in the Commission’s budget amendment and covers make-ready work.
Matt Ford, representing Meadow River Trail phase 3, requested $2,000 to fill gaps between the bridge and abutments, extending the project by 19 days. He also requested $6,480 to add guardrails, which would add three days. The Commission set May 15 as the new completion date for construction work, while the overall project will still conclude on May 30.
In personnel matters, the Commission confirmed Ashley Shields’s separation from the Greenbrier County Circuit Clerk’s office, effective April 23. Shields was hired on August 25, 2022. The departure of Paul Tincher from the Day Report was confirmed, effective May 1, after having been hired on August 28, 2019. Additionally, the Commission approved the hiring of Lucas Hendrix for the Greenbrier County Day Report.
The Commission approved distributing $2,537 each to the Montwell Community Farmers Market and the Farmers Market of Lewisburg, following their recent decision to operate separately after combining five to six years ago.
Additionally, the Commission reviewed competitive bids for the Day Report’s air conditioning project: Adam Whanger proposed $36,590 for cooling alone and $46,700 for both heating and cooling, while Childers Enterprises offered $32,295 and $41,500, respectively. Excitement builds as the Commission prepares for a special meeting to decide the next steps.
