MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WVDN) — Authorities have identified a 34-year-old California man whose body was recovered Thursday following an extensive search at Cooper’s Rock State Forest.
The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office identified the deceased as Andrew Zimmer. His body was located during a coordinated search and rescue operation on May 7, according to a statement released by Sheriff Todd H. Forbes.
Deputies initially responded to the state forest at approximately 1:45 p.m. Thursday after receiving reports of a potential missing person. The investigation was triggered when officials discovered Zimmer’s vehicle abandoned within the park grounds.
Search and rescue teams launched what officials described as an “exhaustive search” of the surrounding forest and rugged terrain. Zimmer was located a short time later and pronounced dead at the scene.
Following a preliminary investigation into the circumstances of the death, the Sheriff’s Office announced that no foul play is suspected. The investigation has since been concluded.
