The Greenbrier East Spartans held their last scrimmage this past Friday when they did some situational work against Midland Trail and James Monroe.
A good crowd of a couple hundred people showed up to watch while the State Fair sights and sounds loomed in the background as the Brantley Gilbert concert got underway.
The Spartans looked good and got a lot of critical work in as their season opener with Point Pleasant kicks off this Friday, August 27 on the road.
Some of the highlights of the scrimmage and things that caught my attention were:
Against Midland Trail:
Ian Cline 50-yard run to start the game
Cline 2-yard TD run after the 50-yard run
JT Spencer clogging up middle
Slant to Lucas McAllister for a big gain
Garrett Bennett short TD run
Levi Wagner pass breakup
Cline big run on team’s 3rd possession
McAllister running well
Noah Dotson FG
Jake Pate long TD catch out of backfield
Against James Monroe:
Bryson Ormsbee 20 yard catch
JT Spencer TD run
Spencer big tackle on outside
Monquelle Davis jukes and scrambles for an impressive run
This week, look for a complete season preview for the Spartans. Also, a preview of the Point Pleasant game will also be available as we get closer to game time.
