GREENBRIER COUNTY, W.Va. (WVDN) – The Greenbrier County Commission met in regular session on Tuesday, April 21.
Among the businesses discussed was the separation of employment of Tyler Hyatt from the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department, effective April 19. According to the Sheriff, Hyatt served for 5 ½ years and was a wonderful deputy. Hyatt moved on to the State Police. Hyatt requested to purchase his service revolver.
Commissioner Holliday read a resolution on the distribution of funds from the opioid settlement.
The funding was allocated as follows: $112,500 to White Sulphur EMS, $112,500 to Fairlea EMS, $25,000 to Alderson EMS, $150,000 to the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department, $100,000 to the Greenbrier County Prosecutor’s Office, and $50,000 to the Greenbrier County Health Department. For Community Funding, $5,000 each went to God’s Way Home, WV Healing Home, Communities and Schools, Greenbrier County Care Coalition, DARE, and Fruits of Labor.
The remaining funds will be invested. Commissioner Hannah said that Alderson EMS received a different amount from other EMS agencies because it responds to only 6% of calls in Greenbrier County. “That’s my justification for the imbalance of funding for Alderson. “
The Commission voted to set the levy rate at 12.93%.
The Greenbrier County Humane Society’s contractual agreement was up for renewal. The amount was to stay at $225,000. With invoices to be submitted quarterly.
Timothy Thomas was on hand to discuss public transit in Greenbrier County. According to Thomas, Mountain Transit is running 6 drivers and 3 routes and needs more. They have a route from Monroe County 5 days a week. Taylor said last year they had 45,000 passengers. In 2026, he expects there to be 72, 094 trips. Public transportation is growing each year.
The Airport Authority requested $4,818 to host a Fly In & Car Show. This amount is to help cover the cost of entertainment, bounce houses, and face painting. The Commission voted to divert funds from arts and recreation to help pay for the event.
