BEAVER W.Va. (WVDN) – New River Community and Technical College hosted its annual Interprofessional Day on Friday, April 17, at the college’s Raleigh County Campus, located at 280 University Drive in Beaver.
Interprofessional Day brings together students from a variety of healthcare programs, including Associate Degree Nursing, Practical Nursing, Phlebotomy, Medical Assisting, Medical Laboratory Technology, Physical Therapist Assistant, and Surgical Technology. The event highlights the importance of teamwork, communication, and hands-on experience in preparing students for careers in healthcare.
A key feature of the day was interactive, scenario-based medical simulations. Students from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine partnered with New River CTC students to work through realistic healthcare situations designed to prepare them for the challenges of providing care in rural communities.
In addition, GEAR UP Southern West Virginia students from Mercer, Monroe, Raleigh, and Summers County schools participated in hands-on learning activities alongside New River CTC faculty and students, offering early exposure to careers in healthcare.
Interprofessional Day serves as an opportunity to strengthen collaboration across healthcare disciplines while supporting the development of a skilled workforce prepared to meet the needs of communities throughout southern West Virginia.
