Charleston, W.Va. (WVDN) – The West Virginia Freedom Caucus is calling on Governor Patrick Morrisey to immediately suspend all state fuel taxes for 90 days, including taxes on gasoline, diesel, and heating oil.
“When government makes everything more expensive, the least it can do is get out of the way,” said Freedom Caucus Chairman S. Chris Anders.
West Virginians are being squeezed from every direction – higher grocery bills, skyrocketing utility costs, and now sharp increases at the pump.
“This isn’t complicated,” said Delegate Laura Kimble. “Families are hurting, and the government is still taking its cut on every gallon.”
“They don’t need another program. They don’t need another promise,” Kimble added. “They need relief – and they need it now.”
The Freedom Caucus is urging the Governor to use his existing constitutional authority to declare an emergency and suspend fuel taxes immediately.
“Government shouldn’t profit when people are struggling to get to work or heat their homes,” said Freedom Caucus Secretary Henry Dillon. “This is a direct, immediate way to return money to the people.”
“Cut the tax. Let people keep their money,” said Senator Craig Hart. “West Virginians can’t wait.”
