LEWISBURG W.Va. (WVDN) – Carnegie Hall is delighted to offer Hanging Birdhouse Basket, an Appalachian Heritage class led by regional basketmaker Kathy Talley, on Friday, April 10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Designed for participants ages 16 and older, this full‑day workshop invites students to explore traditional weaving techniques while creating a charming and functional birdhouse basket perfect for backyard wildlife or home décor. With a maximum class size of ten, participants will enjoy personalized instruction and a relaxed, hands‑on learning environment.
In this intermediate‑level workshop, students will learn to weave a cozy, durable birdhouse basket that can be hung outdoors to attract nesting birds or displayed indoors as a one‑of‑a‑kind decorative piece. The project covers standard weaving and shaping techniques, including how to weave back to create a clean, functional opening. All materials and tools will be provided by the instructor, making the class accessible for those with some prior weaving experience who are ready to expand their skills.
The cost for the workshop is $135 for members and $155 for nonmembers, with automatic scholarships available that reduce the student rate to just $75. Participants with questions about the class or specific material needs are encouraged to contact Carnegie Hall for more information.
Carnegie Hall invites community members to join this special Appalachian Heritage offering and spend a day learning, creating, and celebrating the region’s rich craft traditions.
