LEWISBURG W.Va. (WVDN) – Carnegie Hall is pleased to introduce The Art of Fencing, a five‑week beginner series led by Dr. Russell Amundson, offered on Tuesdays, April 7, 14, 21, 28, and May 5 from 6:30–8 p.m. This dynamic program invites participants ages 12 and older to step onto the strip and explore one of the world’s oldest and most elegant martial arts. Designed to welcome learners of all ages and abilities, the course provides a structured, supportive environment where students can build foundational skills while discovering the excitement and discipline of modern fencing.

Throughout the series, students will engage in progressive weekly exercises that introduce the essentials of fencing footwork, bladework, and strategy. Dr. Amundson will guide participants through the techniques and traditions that define the sport, helping them develop coordination, focus, and confidence. Along the way, students will gain insight into the rich history of fencing and experience the camaraderie and team spirit that define CFC, the Carnegie Fencing Club—where Challenges are Faced Courageously.

The cost for the series is $225 for members and $250 for nonmembers, with a special scholarship rate of $125 available for students. All fencing equipment is provided with the exception of personal protective gear; limited sizes are available, and participants are encouraged to contact Carnegie Hall with any questions regarding specific equipment needs or availability.

Carnegie Hall invites the community to join this engaging introduction to the art and sport of fencing—an opportunity to learn something new, build new skills, and take on a challenge with confidence and curiosity.
