CHARLESTON W.Va. (WVDN) — The West Virginia Association of Optometric Physicians (WVAOP) is proud to announce two significant leadership achievements involving the Southern Council of Optometrists (SECO) — marking a major moment for optometry in West Virginia and across the region.
For more than a century, SECO has been dedicated to advancing the eye care profession. With over 100 years of delivering premier continuing education, hands-on clinical training, professional networking, and access to the latest research and innovations, SECO plays a critical role in strengthening optometry nationwide. Today, West Virginia celebrates two leaders who are helping shape that future.
Chad Robinson Named Executive Director of the South
WVAOP is pleased to announce that Chad Robinson has been named Executive Director of the South for SECO.
Robinson’s appointment follows years of pivotal legislative and organizational accomplishments in West Virginia. Under his leadership, WVAOP achieved landmark progress in modernizing the optometric scope of practice, expanding access to advanced optometric procedures, and ensuring patients across the state receive timely, comprehensive eye care.
His efforts strengthened professional protections for optometric physicians while enhancing membership initiatives and engagement statewide. By aligning policy, education, and advocacy, Robinson helped position West Virginia as a leader in expanding access to modern eye care services.
“Chad’s leadership has had a transformative impact not only on optometry in West Virginia, but on patient access to care,” said Dr. Ben Mize, President, WVAOP. His work in modernizing the scope and strengthening our profession has improved care delivery for families across the state. SECO’s recognition of his leadership reflects the respect he has earned throughout the region.”
Dr. Brad Lane Named Vice President of SECO for 2026–2027
WVAOP also proudly announces that Dr. Brad Lane has been named Vice President of SECO for the 2026–2027 term. As Vice President, Dr. Lane will play a key leadership role in shaping the organization’s strategic priorities, educational programming, and regional initiatives.
Dr. Lane has long been recognized for his commitment to clinical excellence, professional advocacy, and mentorship within the optometric community. His leadership reflects West Virginia’s growing influence in national conversations about the future of eye care.
“Dr. Lane’s appointment demonstrates the strength of leadership emerging from West Virginia,” said Chad Robinson, Executive Director, WVAOP. “His dedication to advancing optometry and expanding access to high-quality eye care makes him an outstanding choice for SECO’s leadership team.”
Together, these appointments represent a significant milestone for West Virginia optometry. They highlight the state’s growing leadership role in advancing education, advocacy, and innovation within the profession.
SECO’s century-long commitment to excellence, through education, research, collaboration, and professional development, aligns closely with WVAOP’s mission to ensure accessible, patient-centered eye care for all West Virginians.
“These announcements are not just about titles,” said Dr. Laura Suppa, Past President, WVAOP. “They represent progress, for our profession, for our patients, and for the future of eye care.”
