Dear Editor,
I graduated from Greenbrier East in 1980, and away I flew. I spent many years living out of state for work, and I lost track of most of my classmates. Lack of good jobs is all too common here in our little piece of paradise. Now it’s 2026, and my wife, of 44 years, and I are very happy to be back in Lewisburg to enjoy our “golden years.”
The last year or so, we have really enjoyed getting reacquainted with old friends and making new friends as well. The West Virginia Daily News has been a real blessing in that respect, publishing a community calendar of sorts. I just wanted to reach out and say how much I enjoy the paper (and the other one too!) to help us reconnect to our Lewisburg!
My favorite articles are found in “Echoes of the Past.” Often, I know the subjects in “25 years ago.” Occasionally, I remember the subjects in “50 years ago.” When it comes to 75 or 100 years ago, then it is just interesting to read something that was written before the dogma of “political correctness” (maybe that’s a little harsh), let’s just say a candid “warts and all” writing style.
In closing, I would like to make mention that, at the time I’m writing this, I’m pleased to report, the most recent front page headlines have NOT featured individuals in Orange Jumpsuits!! Rather, very uplifting stories about our local students’ academic and athletic accomplishments! Then there’s that West Virginia Groundhog, Freddy! Ha Ha Please keep on keeping on with stories and news that is upbeat, positive, and fosters hope of a bright future for our families and our community! Selah! Love Y’all!
P.S. Are there any other readers out there that would appreciate the editor placing “Orange Jumpsuits” on the back page of the paper?
