RUPERT W.Va. (WVDN) – Located on the historic “old” Rupert Elementary School property, the Marvel Center is more than a childcare facility — it is a vibrant early learning and family engagement hub serving the heart of Rupert. Each weekday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Marvel cares for approximately 54 children, ages six weeks to 12 years, providing a safe, loving, and structured environment where children thrive and parents can work with peace of mind.
A nonprofit organization, Marvel employs 15 dedicated staƯ members, partners with local contractors, and is guided by a 14-member volunteer board. Teachers receive specialized training in early childhood development and use the same PreK curriculum as Greenbrier County Schools, ensuring children are prepared for kindergarten and beyond. From hands-on STEAM learning to literacy enrichment through the Heggerty curriculum, children engage in meaningful educational experiences — both indoors and outdoors in the garden and playground.
Through the Marvel Meals program, children receive nutritious breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and snacks daily. When SNAP benefits were suspended in November 2025, Marvel stepped up, offering weekly free community dinners and sending food home with children on weekends to support local families.
Childcare remains one of the largest expenses families face. To keep care affordable, Marvel sets tuition at the state reimbursement rate — even though reimbursements fall well below the true cost of care. Grants and community donations help bridge the gap.
Marvel invites the community to visit 138 Cranberry Avenue in Rupert or call 681-262-2016 to learn more and support this vital work.
