GREENBRIER COUNTY W.Va. (WVDN) – In a fast-paced Greenbrier County Commission Meeting on Feb. 10, the Commission voted for Renick to be able to annex the Thacker and Lewis properties.
The Commission moved on to deciding on dates to hold public meetings about the updated public zoning ordinance adoption. There have to be two public hearings to discuss the updated ordinance, with one being held in the morning and one in the evening. These meetings must be properly advertised in local papers and on social media. The dates of March 3 at 6 p.m. and March 4 at 11 a.m. were chosen.
The change order for the 911 tower maintenance technical support wasn’t approved after the Commission came out of executive session to discuss the situation. It was discussed that, while call-outs were covered, other extenuating circumstances prevented the Commission from approving the Motorola-trained company for maintenance on the towers. The decision was made to solicit bids to find another company to do the tower maintenance.
Amanda Smarr was on hand to request $75,075.30 from the Commission for the Greenbrier County PSD #2 Waterline extension project. This was the Commission‘s part of a $613,763.33 invoice to the Thrasher Group.
The Commission announced a $2 million extension to add Smoot to the waterline extension project. All three Commissioners attended a meeting and learned that the Governor had added the funding to keep the project going to include Smoot.
Smarr recommended that anything dealing with the gig-ready broadband project be tabled until a later date.
It was voted to approve the drunk driving grant application presented by the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department. The grant will run from Feb. 22 to May 26. The amount is $5,000, and one thing it will be used for is a DUI checkpoint.
Brought before the Commission for rehire at the Greenbrier County 911 Center was Caitlin McQuire. It was noted that McQuire is a fast learner, and the background check was already completed. All that’s needed is a refresh on the CAD system. Her rehire was unanimously approved.
The Greenbrier County planning and permit office voted to rehire Sheena Bennett to a full-time position.
With the Smoot waterline project secured and several key positions backfilled, the Commission’s attention now turns to securing a new maintenance provider for the 911 towers. Between the upcoming DUI checkpoints and the public hearings scheduled for early March, the next few weeks will be pivotal for both county safety and administrative transparency.
