A North Carolina woman was arrested on the afternoon of Saturday, July 17 after allegedly committing a series of vehicle thefts. Chastity Sheree Henry-Beck, 31, of Charlotte, has been charged with grand larceny, possession of stolen property, destruction of property and obstructing an officer.
Shortly before noon on the date in question, Beckley dispatch notified law enforcement in Greenbrier County of “ a subject in a John Deere side-by-side traveling up Interstate 64 swerving all over the place attempting to flag down or impede traffic.” Officers were further advised that “ a John Deere gator with two subjects in it was traveling up interstate 64 at approximately 10 mph pulling out in front of vehicles.”
According to the criminal complaint, officers arrived in the area of mile marker 164.5 to find the gator abandoned.
While officers investigated the circumstances surrounding the abandoned John Deere gator, they were made aware of an additional vehicle theft complaint that had reportedly taken place at the Sam Black Little General Store off interstate 64 moments earlier.
As stated in the criminal complaint: “The vehicle was described to have been a 2016 Nissan Rogue, silver in color, stolen by a female wearing a black shirt, headed westbound on Interstate 64 from the Sam Black Church exit.”
Officers from Raleigh County were first to locate the vehicle near mile marker 130, as it had apparently been involved in a single-car collision, and been left inoperable. Officers then reportedly “observed a black female wearing a black shirt walking away from the collision and avoiding the [sic] officer.”
The female (later identified as Chastiti Sheree Henry-Beck) was then detained.
While in custody, officers reportedly observed Henry-Beck “attempt to slip handcuffs several times, attempt to steal the DPS issued cruiser of the [sic] officer, and to resist all types and means of restraint, all while being ordered to stop resisting and to cease attempts to escape.”
Officers from Greenbrier County arrived at the scene and spoke with Henry-Beck, who then allegedly advised that she had just been released from Greenbrier Valley Medical Center and “needed to try and get back to North Carolina.”
In the criminal complaint, Greenbrier County officers describe Henry-Beck as “very uncooperative,” and “having some withdrawal symptoms.” It is further stated in the complaint that Henry-Beck admitted to traveling down Interstate 64 in the John Deere gator before arriving in Sam Black. It was later confirmed that the John Deere gator had been stolen from the maintenance department of the Fairfield Inn. No other suspect was found with Henry-Beck at the time of her arrest.
Henry-Beck was then transported to the Beckley Detachment of the West Virginia State Police for processing.
According to the criminal complaint, while at the Beckley Detachment, “the defendant continually defied orders of the undersigned officer to remain calm and to stop fighting restraint methods. The defendant was then observed to destroy the Livescan processing area of the WVSP Beckley Detachment. The defendant ripped a panel off of the wall used to photograph prisoners, and then ripped the panel into several pieces before the [sic] officer could stop her and further restrain her. The defendant then continued to fight her restraints and kicked a large hole into the drywall beside the arrest bench in the WVSP Beckley Livescan processing area.”
Chastity Sheree Henry-Beck is currently being held at Southern Regional Jail on a $130,000 cash-bond or surety.
