The Greenbrier Valley Airport Authority swore in a member, highlighted recent fuel sales, and looked at grounds improvements during the Tuesday, July 20, meeting.
Amid other regular agenda items, the Airport Authority and Airport Director Brian Belcher looked to keep the airport’s business running:
— After the recent approval by the Greenbrier County Committee, Mike Rose will once again serve on the Airport Authority — “Thank you to the board, and to the County Commission,” Rose said. He was sworn in on Tuesday when he took the oath of office with his fellow board members: “I, Michael Rose who has been duly appointed to the Airport Authority Board of Greenbrier County, do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of West Virginia, and I will truly and faithfully perform all the duties as Member to the best of my skill and judgment, so help me God.”
— This year continues to show signs of recovery in travelers to the area from the COVID-19 pandemic. Belcher explained that the airport saw “the best fuel sales since 2007 for the month of June.” While July is not yet over, Belcher continued, saying “I don’t know if we’re going to get it up to the 2018 number, but in July it looks like we’re going to be up the past two years in fuel sales.”
— A new restaurant is planning to open in the Greenbrier Valley Airport. Originally planning to open this week, Belcher explained the business lost one of its three cooks in the past few days. The new opening schedule is for next week, should the replacement cook hiring process go correctly. In the immediate past of COVID-19, several restaurants have opened and closed in the space, complicated by reduced foot traffic in the airport and pandemic restrictions.
— Contractors installed parts of a perimeter fence around the Greenbrier Valley Airport, with the project going well and Belcher stating “they are still out there working, it’s not finished.” Despite that, the fence was celebrated as a welcome part of the airport’s security.
— The design for a replacement sign marking the entrance to the Greenbrier Valley Airport on Route 219 was discussed, with a number of possible types of signs presented to the Airport Authority. The final design can be adjusted to match features included in other presented concepts — the authority members will further consider the designs.
