A New England man was arrested in Greenbrier County on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 14, after a routine traffic stop led to the alleged discovery of narcotics. Howard Fabian Peterkin, 33, of Waterburg, CT. has been charged with speeding, possession of a controlled substance and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
At approximately 2:45 p.m. on the date in question, while performing stationary radar traffic scans along the eastbound lanes of I-64 near mile marker 156.5, State Troopers reportedly identified a grey Honda Accord traveling at a speed of 82-miles-per-hour in a 70-miles-per-hour zone. Troopers then conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle.
According to the criminal complaint, as Troopers approached the vehicle, a “strong odor of marijuana (was emanating) from the vehicle.”
Both the driver (identified as Howard Fabian Peterkin) and a female passenger were ordered out of the vehicle and detained while troopers performed a search. The trooper’s search allegedly resulted in the discovery of a .25 caliber semi-automatic pistol, and seven “containers of a green leafy substance suspected to be marijuana.”
The complaint further states that “two containers of a brown in color wax substance suspected to be THC wax, two glass smoking devices and one set of digital scales” were found in the vehicle.
Peterkin has had two previous felony convictions in Westchester County, New York in 2004 and 2006.
Howard Fabian Peterkin is currently being held at Southern Regional Jail on a $10,000 cash-bond or surety.
