Dear Editor,

West Virginia has some of the dirtiest water in the country. People complain that their water is unusable and undrinkable.

The list of who to hold accountable is long. It includes Pres. Trump, Gov. Morrisey, former Gov. and current Sen. Justice, the state legislature, state agencies, and something called the Water Development Authority. This agency is supposed to finance construction of water and wastewater facilities. The state agencies meant to protect us are more interested in protecting Morrisey’s agenda. The Department of Environmental Protection just keeps issuing permits with no care about potential pollution.

While other states are filing lawsuits against polluters, our Attorney General is too busy filing frivolous lawsuits. When Morrisey was Attorney General, he wasn’t any better. It doesn’t help that our President is an anti-environmentalist. Trump keeps cutting funding for clean water projects.

West Virginia has some of the lowest water standards in the country. Yet if business wants a change, the legislature is happy to oblige and lower the standards even more.

It could cost billions to fix the state’s water systems. Morrisey is proud to offer a pittance of the needed amount. Some have proposed taking money from the rainy-day fund to improve water systems. The Republicans are concerned about the risk to the state’s credit rating.  They are more concerned about the state’s credit rating than the people having clean water.
