A brief meeting of the White Sulphur Springs City Council heard reports from departments and committees working for the city on Monday, July 13.
The new White Sulphur Springs City Pool was celebrated during the Parks and Recreation report.
“The swimming pool is being used heavily,” said Councilmember Audrey Van Buren. “People are coming from all over, even Covington and Monroe County.”
Van Buren also noted that of the requests coming from visitors to the pool, a concession stand was the most common.
— Mayor Bruce Bowling noted that a stormwater improvement project on Church Street would soon begin after the contractor received the necessary pipes for the project.
— According to Fire Chief Brian Dolin, there were three motor vehicle accidents with no injuries, three automatic fire alarms, two EMS assists, two helicopter landing zones, and one electrical fire, water in the roadway, electrical lines down, animal rescue, and service call apiece, for a total of 15 calls and 180 call hours in June 2021.
— According to Chief of Police Scotty Teubert, there were 77 calls for service, 60 building checks, 19 written citations, 24 total charges, four drug charges, three written warnings, 10 arrests, one traffic crash, three funeral details, and six domestic calls for June 2021.
— City Council approved AssuredPartners to continue providing insurance to White Sulphur Springs.
Council approved a move to adjourn under five minutes after the meeting started.
“I’m waiting for the magic words,” joked Bowling before the motion to adjourn.
