CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WVDN) – Governor Patrick Morrisey today released the following statement after President Trump ordered all U.S. and state flags flown at half-staff to honor SPC Sarah Beckstrom.

“Today, President Trump ordered that flags across the nation be flown at half-staff in recognition of SPC Sarah Beckstrom. I want to thank him for this heartfelt gesture. It means a great deal to Sarah’s family, to the West Virginia National Guard community, and to so many across our state who are grieving her loss.

“Sarah was only 20 years old, but she lived with a courage and a sense of service well beyond her years. Everyone who knew her spoke of her warmth, her smile, and her determination to help others. We will honor her life and her sacrifice for years to come.

“As we remember Sarah, I ask that everyone continue to pray for SSgt Andrew Wolfe. Andrew is still fighting with the strength and determination that define our West Virginia Guardsmen. His parents have shared only one request at every step: to keep the prayers coming. I believe in the power of those prayers, and I ask all West Virginians to lift him up in the days ahead.

“May God comfort Sarah’s family, strengthen Andrew and his loved ones, and watch over all the brave men and women who serve our state and nation.”
