RENICK W.Va. (WVDN) – A house on Brownstown Road belonging to Steve and Dawn Petre was a total loss, leaving the couple and their family without a residence or vehicles. The fire occurred this morning (Nov. 16), and the West Virginia Daily News spoke with Steve’s brother, Jay Petre, who provided
details on the fire.

“The family woke up at 7 a.m. this morning to the smell of smoke in the house and quickly saw that the fire had already developed in the opposite end of the house,” Jay Petre said. “The family was able to get out safely. However, they couldn’t get back in to retrieve the keys to their vehicles, so they lost their house, vehicles and all their personal belongings.”

Health challenges within the family over the past five years have already placed a heavy burden on the Petre household.

“As many of you know, they have dealt with difficult health issues in the family the last five years, and this comes as a tough blow to their family,” Jay Petre added.

Local friends and a church have stepped in to provide immediate aid with food and clothing. Those looking to assist with urgent bills and supplies are encouraged to contact the family directly or contribute to a GoFundMe campaign established to help them rebuild.

Support for Steve and Dawn Petre can be donated at: GoFundMe: Help Steve and Dawn Rebuild After Fire https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-steve-and-dawn-rebuild-after-fire?lang=enUS.

Authorities have not released additional details at this time.
