CLEAR FORK- The Greenbrier West Cavalier cross-country team is state bound after an outstanding performance at the Class A Regional Championships.

The Cavaliers raced with determination and teamwork, earning their spot among West Virginia’s best at the upcoming WVSSAC State Cross Country Championships.

Leading the way was junior Jesse Walkup winning the A championship with a PR 18:27.30, who continued his stellar season with a top finish that secured All-Region honors and an individual state qualification.

Senior Elijah Russell ran a PR 19:09.20 finishing third and delivered one of his strongest races of the year, helping push the Cavaliers into qualifying position.

Junior Dominic Mandeville finished 5th with a PR of 19:59.20 and freshman Gabriel Keaton finished his season 19th with a time of 30:53.30 and rounded out the scoring, each battling through the tough regional course with grit and pride.

Head coach Christian Walkup praised his team’s effort:

“This group has worked hard all season. They earned this trip to states the right way — through discipline, heart, and teamwork.”

The Cavaliers will now turn their focus to the WVSSAC State Championships, where they’ll represent Greenbrier West with pride against the top runners in the state.
