CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WVDN) – Today, Governor Patrick Morrisey announced he has signed a proclamation recognizing October 13, 2025 as Columbus Day in West Virginia. Governor Morrisey affirmed the state’s support for honoring the significance of Christopher Columbus’s historic and daring voyage to the “New World” and the subsequent age of discovery, which led to the formation of the European colonies and the founding of the United States of America.

“Today we reflect on the remarkable vision and boldness of Christopher Columbus that forged a new chapter in human history,” said Governor Morrisey. “Columbus Day is an opportunity for West Virginians to celebrate the enduring spirit of exploration, determination, and progress that helped shape the foundation of our great nation.”
