BEAVER W.Va. (WVDN) — New River Community and Technical College will offer free Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) classes this fall in both Mercer and Greenbrier counties. The courses provide hands-on training and clinical experience to prepare students for careers in the growing healthcare field.

Mercer County Class

Classes will begin October 29 and meet Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (with an occasional 3:30 p.m. end time). Instruction will take place at New River CTC’s Raleigh Street location in Bluefield, with clinical experience held at Princeton Healthcare Center. The course will conclude on December 19.

Greenbrier Valley Campus Class

Classes are scheduled to begin October 28 and meet Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. through December 17. Instruction will be held in the Kyle and Ann Fort Arts and Sciences Building at New River CTC’s Greenbrier Valley Campus in Lewisburg, with clinicals at Lewisburg Healthcare Center.

Both classes are being offered at no cost to students, except for any fingerprinting fees required for WV CARES background clearance.

The CNA program at New River CTC prepares students for entry-level healthcare employment and is an excellent first step toward nursing or other medical careers.
