A North Carolina man is in Southern Regional Jail on two felony charges after stealing a vehicle and driving it into Raleigh County.
On Saturday, May 22, at around 4 p.m., a Raleigh County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic stop on I-77 northbound near Exit 42 after spotting a vehicle that had been reported stolen from a parking lot in Winston Salem, NC, according to the criminal complaint.
As the officer was speaking to the driver, Joshua Paul Whicker, 38, of Winston Salem, he allegedly admitted that he had “consumed one line of methamphetamine prior to driving” and that “people were coming after him,” the complaint alleges. He was also driving on a suspended license.
Whicker then failed a series of sobriety tests and was arrested.
He has been charged on one felony count of receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle valued at $17,000, one felony count of bringing into this state property stolen in another state, one misdemeanor count of driving suspended and one misdemeanor count of driving under the influence.
No bond has been set.
