The New River Gorge Regional Development Authority (NRGRDA) is announcing that the Analysis of Brownfields Cleanup Alternatives (ABCA) for cleanup of the Former Rainelle Dump Site, is available for public review and comment.
The Former Rainelle Dump site is located adjacent to Snake Island Road near the Town of Rainelle in Fayette County, West Virginia. The property was used as a municipal landfill for the Town of Rainelle beginning in approximately 1970 and received general household materials until the 1980s, when the Greenbrier County Landfill was constructed.
The ABCA was prepared as a requirement of the U.S. EPA Brownfields Grant awarded to the NRGRDA for the remediation of the Site. The document, as well as previous environmental assessment documents for the site, can be reviewed at the Rainelle Public Library, located at 378 7th Street, Rainelle, WV. The library hours are Monday and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
A public meeting will be held by NRGRDA and Greenbrier Environmental Group, Inc. at the Rainelle Medical Center’s community room located at 176 Medical Center Drive, Rainelle, WV on Thursday, November 6, 2025 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
