Anyone who has lived in West Virginia knows that the state can get severe thunderstorms. But first, let me define what a severe thunderstorm is. A severe thunderstorm is a thunderstorm that has one inch diameter hail (size of a quarter) and/or a 58 mph wind gust and/or a tornado.
Even though severe thunderstorms can happen at any time during the year it is most prevalent during the middle and end of June. The following maps below from the NWS Storm Prediction Center bears this out.
