The Greenbrier East Lady Spartans watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 6-2 loss to the Ripley Vikings on Tuesday. Ripley took the lead on a home run in the second inning when Grace Walsh blasted a three-run shot for a 3-0 Vikings lead.
Chloe Shin was the winning pitcher for Ripley. She surrendered one run on just four hits over six innings. She struck out five and walked one. Sidney Varney threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Taylor Graham took the loss for East. The senior went six innings, gave up six runs on eight hits and struck out seven.
Olivia Plybon, Annabelle Honaker, Ella Asbury, Brooke Davis, Lindsey Black, and Graham each managed one hit to lead East Spartans.
Ripley scattered eight hits in the game. Varney and Cassidy Cummings all managed multiple hits for Ripley.
The Spartans (12-6) have now lost three games in a row, but all have been to powerhouse teams in the state.
