CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WVDN) – Governor Patrick Morrisey announced a Mountaineer Mile walking trail will be marked at the State Fair of West Virginia, allowing those in attendance to walk a mile throughout the fairgrounds. The one-mile trail starts and ends at the Tomblin Plaza just inside the front entrance to the State Fair and is marked with the Mountaineer Mile placard provided by the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (DNR), ensuring that walkers can easily follow the path.

Governor Morrisey will be in attendance at the State Fair for Governor’s Day on Friday, August 8 and encourages fairgoers to join him for the Governor’s Day Mountaineer Mile. Those who wish to participate should meet at Tomblin Plaza at 1:00 PM.

“I could not be more proud to include the Mountaineer Mile in one of our state’s most time-honored summer traditions,” said Governor Morrisey. “I encourage anyone to join us for the fair’s inaugural Mountaineer Mile as we celebrate the spirit and pride of our great state.”

As part of the Governor’s Day celebration, participants will receive a colorful commemorative bib to pin to their shirts. Those who complete the Mountaineer Mile alongside the Governor will receive a special token redeemable for six tokens at the carnival.

This event is open to all fairgoers and is part of the fair’s ongoing commitment to promoting wellness and family-friendly fun.
