The postseason has started and the Greenbrier East Lady Spartans are rejuvenated and focused.
East defeated Woodrow Wilson 10-0 on Tuesday, June 1 as Taylor Graham and Josi Ervin combined to throw a shutout. Ervin got Kacee Fansler to fly out to finish off the game.
In the first inning, the Spartans got their offense started when Ervin stole home followed by a Josie Patterson RBI single that made the score 2-0. Taylor Graham scored on an error and Patterson scored on Lindsey Black’s sac fly as East led 4-0 after one.
Brooke Davis singled with one out in the second and later came around to score on Graham’s base hit. Then on the very next pitch, Patterson laced a two-run double and the Spartans were up 7-0.
Annabelle Honaker had a two-run single and Graham had another RBI single as well to cap off the East scoring for the night.
Graham led the Spartans (16-6) to victory on the mound. The hard throwing right-hander went three innings, allowed zero runs on one hit, and struck out four. Ervin threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Fansler took the loss for Woodrow Wilson. She went all four innings, gave up 10 runs on seven hits and struck out just one batter.
East had seven hits on the day. Honaker, Graham, and Josie Patterson all managed multiple hits. Patterson had three RBI’s while Graham and Honaker both got two apiece.
Kayla Bird went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead Woodrow Wilson.
