With four runs in the first inning and one in the second, the Greenbrier East Lady Spartans were too good on Wednesday, June 2 in their 9-1 win over the Oak Hill Red Devils in sectional postseason play.
With the victory, East has now won five games in a row.
In the opening frame, Annabelle Honaker doubled off the wall in centerfield then came around to score when Taylor Graham hit a hard single up the middle. Three batters later, Olivia Plybon ripped a double to left field that scored Graham and Black and after one full inning, East led 4-0.
The Spartans went up 5-0 in the second on a hard ground ball by Josie Patterson that Oak Hill shortstop Savannah Holbrook couldn’t handle and Honaker scored.
Two more runs scored in the fourth for East after Lindsey Black singled Graham home and then Black scored on a passed ball later in the frame.
Josi Ervin bunt singled home Riley Norman and Aubrey Glover scored on a sac fly to conclude the Spartans scoring on the evening.
Ervin got the pitching win. The sophomore went five innings and allowed just three hits and struck out six.
Honaker and Brooke Davis each had two hits for East.
East is now 17-6 on the season.
