LEWISBURG, W.Va. (WVDN) – The Lewisburg City Council moved forward on several community projects and employee matters during its regular meeting Tuesday, June 17, including approval of another payment toward the city’s ongoing water treatment plant improvement project.
Council members approved Resolution 583, authorizing Pay Request 40 related to the Water Treatment Plant Improvement Project, a long-term effort to upgrade the city’s water infrastructure.
Mayor Beverly White also issued a proclamation recognizing National Garden Week, highlighting local efforts to beautify and preserve green spaces.
Among a range of administrative updates, council members discussed internal matters, including a series of pay increases for municipal employees. Raises were approved for several staff members, including Aaron Sofil, John McMillion, Samuel McMillion, Jared Terry and Justin Yates. The council also reviewed and approved a contract renewal with the Mills Group, an architectural firm frequently consulted on city projects and designated an Employee Appreciation Day off work as a gesture toward city staff. A bid for construction of a new dog park was also approved.
From the Public Safety Committee, Councilmember Arron Seams delivered reports addressing issues including pets in Center Green, police department fines and a purchase of bulletproof vests for law enforcement, which were all approved.
The council also considered matters related to the Falling Springs and Renick water system, continuing the city’s efforts to coordinate regional infrastructure development.
Council members present included Sarah Elkins, Franklin Johnson, John Little, Valerie Pritt, and Arron Seams. The next regular meeting is scheduled for July.
