Elizabeth Jane “Betty” McGurty

Elizabeth Jane “Betty” McGurty, 79, of Lewisburg, WV, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at her daughter’s home in Bristol, TN.

Born on December 25, 1945, she was the cherished daughter of the late Wesley L. Wise and Elsie Mae Banta Wise. Betty was a beloved member of her community and family, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Thomas Daniel McGurty; her granddaughter, Kandis Renee Brown; her twin brother, William Wise; her brother, Jerry Wise; and her sisters, Janet Curry and Shirley Sinks.

Betty is survived by her loving daughter, Sandra Miller, and son-in-law, Lee; her longtime companion, Jerry Linton, and his daughter, Angela Linton (Kevin Deitz). Other survivors include her sister, Eileen Yount (Ronald); her brother-in-law, Marlin Sink, her sisters-in-law, Debbie and Jackie McGurty; her grandson, John Thomas Smith (Mary Queen); and her great-grandchildren, Noah, Ethan, Madilyn, Brayden, Isabella, Kegan, Lilly, Kain, Scarlette, and Chloe. Betty also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and extended family members, all of whom will miss her dearly.

A funeral service to honor Betty’s life will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Morgan Funeral Home in Lewisburg, WV, with Pastor Gary Baker officiating. The family will receive visitors during a public viewing on Monday, June 2, 2025, between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Following the service, Betty will be laid to rest in the Wallace Memorial Mausoleum, Clintonville, WV.

Arrangements are under the care of Morgan Funeral Home, Lewisburg, WV.
