Saturday, the Greenbrier West senior and defending state champion at 220 pounds, won the Class A, Region III title at 285 pounds and was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler.
Dalton Heath, 160 pounds, also won a regional title and the Cavaliers, the two-time defending Class A state champions, will send nine wrestlers to next week’s state tournament in Huntington.
Tucker Lilly (3rd, 106 pounds), Moses Gray (3rd, 120), Clayton Robinson (4th, 126), Brad Blevins (2nd, 138), Eli White (4th, 152), Cole Vandall (3rd, 170) and Joey Terry (2nd, 195) also state qualified for West.
Independence won the team title with 281 points, followed by Herbert Hoover (224) and Greenbrier West (162).
The Group A/AA state wrestling championships will be held next Wednesday and Thursday at the Mountain Health Arena in Huntington.
