Lewisburg, W.Va. — HospiceCare has announced they will host their annual 10K Run/Walk (in-person) this year on June 12 in downtown Lewisburg.
This annual event has been one of the most successful fundraisers for HospiceCare for many years.
Since 2012, the event has kicked off the annual Lewisburg Chocolate Festival, but since the festival was canceled this year; Missy VanBuren, development coordinator worked with the Greenbrier Valley Health Department and the city of Lewisburg in hopes the 10K event could be held. To ensure the safety of all participants, the event will follow certain COVID-19 protocols set up by the race committee and local authorities.
The run/walk will kick off at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 12, in front of the Greenbrier County Courthouse.
According to VanBuren, “In the past, we have started the race at the Greenbrier Valley Airport and crossed Route 219N onto Fairview Road and to the Courthouse for the finish, however with protocols in place for the safety of everyone, we decided to have the event begin and end in the same place. This will allow participants to turn around at our halfway point (water station) on Fairview Road and return to the Courthouse. It will also help minimize traffic concerns crossing 219 North and keep the event on one road. We are excited to be able to have this event in person and we feel that people are ready to get outside, enjoy the fresh air and get back to some normalcy in their lives”.
Anyone interested in running or walking the 10K can access registration forms by going to www.aptiming.com and registering online or they may print and mail registrations at www.hospicecarewv.org.
All race information is on both websites. The cost of registration is $25 (plus service fee if online) and includes a custom-made finisher medal and will also have the option to purchase a t-shirt or tank with the 2021 10K logo.
All proceeds will benefit The Greenbrier Division of HospiceCare and The Peyton Hospice House. For more information contact Missy VanBuren at 304-645-2700.
