A “shelter in place” was ordered on the evening of Friday, March 26 in response to reports of a possible active-shooter situation at the Big Springs-area Par Mar in Pocahontas County.
A social media post from Pocahontas County Homeland Security and Emergency Management stated, “Stay indoors and avoid the area until further notice”.
Less than an hour later, a subsequent post stated, “The shelter in place order for the snowshoe area has been canceled. Suspect is in custody.”
While no further information has been released regarding the incident, on Friday evening, Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Deputies did arrest Roger Wayne Sills, 41, on charges of felony destruction of property, kidnapping and eight-counts of wanton endangerment. Sills is currently being held at Tygart Valley Regional Jail. No bail has been set, and Sills’ case has been bound to a higher court.
It should be noted that no law enforcement or emergency management official has confirmed Sills’ involvement in the possible active shooter situation.
